UUM AWARDED THE GREEN ERA AWARD FOR SUSTAINABILITY

UUM ONLINE: 10 June - The efforts of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in the practice of sustainable development carried out at every administrative level in the University  was not in vain when it  received The Green Era Award for Sustainability awarded by Other Ways Association, Management & Consulting, an organisation based in France.

The award presentation ceremony took place in Berlin, Germany, recently where the Director of the UUM Institute of Quality Management (IPQ), Prof. Dr. Nor Aziah Abd Manaf represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak to receive the award.

Today, the success was shared with UUM denizens when Prof. Dr. Nor Aziah presented the certificate and trophy of The Green Era Award for Sustainability to the Vice-Chancellor at Sri Delima.

The award was given on the involvement of UUM as an active institution in the development of sustainability.

SBM Online: Pada Sabtu, 31 March 2018 yang lalu, sekumpulan mahasiswa dan mahasiswi semester akhir Ijazah Sarjana Muda Pengurusan Perniagaan (BBA) daripada Pusat Pengajian Pengurusan Perniagaan (SBM) UUM telah mengadakan satu program pembelajaran berasaskan servis (Service Based Learning) di Gelanggang Futsal Bandar Tasik Mutiara, Seberang Perai Selatan.

DISRUPTIVE LEARNING ON HYDROPHONIC BUSINESS VENTURES FOR SUSTAINABILITY

UUM ONLINE: A total of 30 MBA students of Othman Yeop Abdullah Business Graduate (OYAGSB) received value-added knowledge through the modernized cultivation of hydroponics.

The activity was held on 13th and 14th April at RISDA, Tanjung Genting as a disruptive learning activity. Disruptive learning is out-of-classroom learning that encourages students to develop self-reflexivity skills and encourages them to be self-reflective so that they could improve their current work practices.

The activity involved experts from the School of Economics, Finance and Banking.

SINTOK – Sempena menyambut Hari Pengasasan Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) ke-34, seramai 150 kakitangannya menyertai Program Appreaciate The Nature  - 15km Jungle Tracking di Hutan Simpanan UUM, baru-baru ini.

Ekspedisi ini bertujuan memberi peluang kepada warga UUM melihat sendiri flora fauna dengan membawa mereka ke tempat yang tidak pernah dilawati seperti Air Terjun Sintok, Tasik Sintok.

TRASH HERO INSTILLS THE AWARENESS OF LOVE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AMONGST UUM STUDENTS

UUM ONLINE: The founder of Langkawi Trash Hero cum nature lover, Ms. Ulrika Player, from Sweden successfully instilled awareness to appreciate and protect the environment amongst the students of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

According to Ms. Ulrika, when she set foot on the island well-known for the legend of Mahsuri, she began to fall in love with the beauty of Langkawi Island, but the rubbish which was visible everywhere was an eyesore to her.

"I saw a lot of people throwing rubbish as they wished and this attitude is very disappointing, it then dawned on me the idea of establishing Langkawi's Trash Hero as soon as I witnessed the Trash Hero World, a movement that does volunteer work to pick up rubbish in order to protect the environment.

RAINWATER HARVESTER SYSTEM HELPS OVERCOME WATER SHORTAGE AND KEEPS FLOOD AT BAY

UUM ONLINE: The problem of water shortage due to low water pressure in some rural areas is now a thing of the past with the production of rainwater harvesting systems specially designed by a team of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) researchers led by Sr. Dr. Mohd Nazaruddin Yusoff together with Prof. Dr. Rohana Yusof, Dr. Azlizan Talib, Za'im Ahmad and Dr. Hazeline Ayoup.

According to Sr. Dr. Mohd Nazaruddin, his team selected the Bukit Lada Mini RTC and the KEDA Bendang Perang Village, Jabi as the location of the Project for Designing Rainwater Harvesting System in Rural Areas in view of the low water pressure problem faced by residents of the two locations.

PROGRAM SINTOK FUN RIDE BERSAMA SEKOLAH MENENGAH KEBANGSAAN BANDAR BARU SINTOK

JPP ONLINE : 8 Mac 2018 - Bersempena dengan Hari Pengasasan Universiti ke-34, JPP telah menganjurkan Program Sintok Fun Ride bersama Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Sintok. Tujuan utama program ini adalah untuk memberi peluang kepada warga sekolah khususnya pelajar dan guru untuk melihat sendiri keindahan flora dan fauna di dalam kampus UUM.

Seramai 90 orang pelajar dan guru diiringi oleh 7 orang pegawai dari JPP telah menyertai program ini. Pelepasan kayuhan basikal elektrik telah disempurnakan oleh Guru Besar di perkarangan SMK Bandar Baru Sintok. Diantara lokasi yang dilawati adalah Anjung Tamu, Puncak Vista, Kandang Rusa dan padang golf.

CLEAN THE CAMPUS TO RID OF AEDES

UUM ONLINE: A clean university, healthy campus community and zero-dengue were amongst the goals set out to be achieved in the UUM Zero AEDES 2018 Launching Ceremony at the MISC Student Residence yesterday.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Prof. Dr. Abdul Malek Abdul Karim said the programme was aimed at ensuring the areas in Institutions of High Learning were free of dengue, apart from raising the level of awareness amongst students on the importance of prevention and curbing the spread of dengue cases.

"At times we hope others will do it for us, if we only expect the cleaners to clean the areas, Zero-Aedes will not take place as we have more than 16,000 students and 3,000 staff.

KAYUHAN BERBASIKAL “SECURUTY FUN RIDE” (WELCOME CENTRE – UNIMAP – PERKARANGAN JABATAN KESELAMATAN 2018)

KESL ONLINE : Sempena Hari Pengasasan Universiti  Utara Malaysia ke - 34  Jabatan Keselamatan dengan kerjasama Kelab Kebajikan Jabatan Keselamatan (KEJAKES) telah menganjurkan kayuhan basikal “Security Fun Ride” pada 28 Februari 2018 bersamaan 12 Jamadilakhir 1439H.  Program ini adalah kayuhan santai bagi pengemar sukan berbasikal untuk menguji ketahanan mental dan fizikal sepanjang kayuhan dengan jarak 35 km pergi balik. Kayuhan yang bersifat santai, telah menarik perhatian ramai untuk menyertai program ini dimana peserta bergerak dalam barisan mengikut arahan marshall dan tidak bersifat berlumba. Pihak penganjur telah menyediakan sebanyak 60 buah basikal letrik Voltron bagi para peserta yang tidak mempunyai basikal untuk menjayakan program ini.  Kayuhan bermula dari Welcome Centre, UUM menuju ke UNIMAP, Perlis dan berakhir di Perkarangan Jabatan Keselamatan.

PECINTA ALAM CARI DAMAI DI HUTAN SINTOK - KAYA KHAZANAH FLORA FAUNA

UUM ONLINE: Semakin jauh menyelusuri belantara, hati terpesona menikmati keindahan alam semulajadi yang kaya dengan khazanah flora fauna sambil mendengar kicauan merdu burung, unggas, cengkerik, deruan air ibarat alunan muzik yang mendamaikan.

Meredah hutan beramai-ramai amat mengujakan walaupun terpaksa menempuh laluan berbukit, lumpur, denai, batu dan cerun, namun tidak menghalang staf UUM membuktikan rasa sayang terhadap universiti ini sempena sambutan Hari Pengasasan Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) kali yang ke-34 dalam Hutan Sintok UUM.
