UUM ONLINE, 8 Nov. 2015: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) management took the initiative to organise Discover UUM 2016, to showcase the priceless treasures found in Sintok valley which could potentially attract huge number of tourists.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, the Discover UUM 2016 would draw parallels and in line with supporting the Kedah Tourism’s persistent efforts to promote the state.

"The Discover UUM 2016 programme will encapsulate what UUM is all about. Over the next few months, integrated initiatives and activities will be rolling out to bring about the UUM dimension of entrepreneurship and management.

Living up to its reputation as the leading management university, UUM received a visit from an independent panel of judges. The visit aims to assess entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial development in this institution, when UUM is being listed as one of the finalists for the Entrepreneurship University Awards under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Entrepreneurial Awards (MEA) 2015," he said this during the soft launch of the Discover UUM 2016 recently.

He further reiterated that UUM is planning to launch the Discover UUM 2016 in February next year to commemorate the 32nd founding anniversary of UUM.

He also expressed his hope that greater efforts would be made to further develop tourism sector as many places of interest waiting to be explored.

"Among the priceless treasures which can be found in the Sintok forest are trees which are hundreds of years old. The uniqueness of this particular type of tree rests in its size which is said to reach up to 10 hugs.

Therefore, to enhance the visitors’ comfort, paths and other facilities will also be built, including bridges to better facilitate visitors’ access into the area.

The university entrepreneurial projects will be widened to include rearing deer, and the expansion work would also take place in the deer farm. Apart from this, we are in the process of incorporating other animals such as peacocks, swans and flamingos," he said.

In this respect, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his hope that the entrepreneurial projects would not only help generate income for the university but also would train and nurture more young entrepreneurs.

"Discover UUM 2016 welcomes volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the programme. In conjunction with the programme, we will also organise international fairs to promote and sell overseas products," he said.
