HOLISTIC STUDENTS FROM FIVE INSTITUTIONS OF TWO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES COLLABORATE

PPA CAS ONLINE:  An approximately 200 students and staff from various higher learning institutions within and outside the country have joined forces to implement the S.O.S .: Save Our Shores: Man in the Mangrove Beach Series II Programme in Kuala Ibus, Kuala Kedah on March 5, 2016 (Saturday). The planting of 600 mangrove seedlings along the coast of Kuala Ibus was organised by UUM CAS PPA in collaboration with the Kedah State Forestry Department. The S.O.S. Series II Programme is a string of Series I which was carried out in 2015 in Merdeka Coastal area, Sungai Petani by students from the School of Applied Psychology, Policy and Social Work (PSP, UUM CAS) under the supervision of Dr Fatimah Zailly Ahmad Ramli.

The participants includes 40 students from the Student Representative Council of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Perak, 56 students of the Department of Information Technology, Metro Tasek Gelugor Polytechnic, Penang, 22 practical students from the University Computer (UNIKOM ), Bandung, four (4) student practical students of the School of Information Management and Computer (STMIK), Tasikmalaya, Indonesia and a number of UUM students.

Apart from this programme, students from UPSI and polytechnics were also participating in various activities organised by the club and society under PPA UUM CAS starting at 4th to 6th March 2016.

In addition, students also make a short visit to Perusahaan Belacan Sinar, Alor Ibus nearby the mangrove planting area. They were exposed to the entrepreneurship programme of shrimp paste production by Ms Suraya Sudin, daughter to the shrimp paste industry.

The programme was concluded with a luncheon and appreciation speech by Mr Firdaus Abdul Kadir, Assistant Director, Kedah State Forestry Department. Penolong Pengarah, Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Kedah.
