ELECTRIC PEDAL-ASSISTED BICYCLES (EPAB) PROMOTES GREEN MOBILITY IN CAMPUS

UUM ONLINE: Kuala Lumpur - Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) was among the six public universities in Malaysia selected to receive 200 electric pedal-assisted bicycles (EPAB).

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak received the EPAB on behalf of the university from the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Dato' Seri Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili during the Launching Ceremony of the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) this morning.

Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Dr. Maximus said, the handing over of the electric pedal-assisted bicycles was part of the government’s efforts to promote the 'green mobility' initiative among the younger generation.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dato' Seri Vice-Chancellor stated that, the electric pedal-assisted bicycles would be distributed to all Centres of Authority (PTJ) and the Student Residence (INASIS) as part of UUM’s effort to embrace the sustainable green campus initiatives.

Besides UUM, Universiti Tenaga Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak also received the EPAB during the ceremony.

IGEM 2016, bearing the theme, 'Green Business for Sustainablitiy' is the seventh edition of the conference organised by the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia). GreenTech is an organisation under the purview of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA).

The three-day conference and exhibition commenced yesterday and the event saw the participation of leading organisations from 30 countries around the world.
