UUM ONLINE: Following its success of being listed in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, UUM again brought honour to the nation when it secured the gold medal at the Green World Awards 2016 For Education & Training, in Bucheon, South Korea, recently.

As the Global Gold Winner, UUM will receive the Green Apple trophy and the certificate and logo for Green World Awards winners. By virtue of winning this prize, UUM was also chosen as the Ambassador of Green World 2016/2017. The formal award presentation ceremony will take place in London on 11 November.

The Green World Awards is organised by The Green Organisation, an international body established in 1994 as an independent, non-profit, and non-political organisation, and it recognizes and rewards organisations that promote the best practices in environmental care around the world.

What is more, the award will also help to boost ecotourism and the reputation and the status of the organisation worldwide while encouraging others to also care for the environment.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that he was very pleased when UUM was accorded the world-class recognition seeing as it acknowledges the university’s efforts in developing environmentally friendly infrastructure.

"We managed to outshine a total of 500 competitors from around the world in the Green World Awards for Environmental Best Practice, which acknowledges countries, companies, and communities that are the greenest in the world.

"With this success, I would like to urge all members of the campus community to make the most of the natural environment we have and to help promote UUM’s visibility as the university in a green forest not only within the country, but also abroad,” said the Vice-Chancellor.

Amman Arab University, Jordan, won the Global Silver medal and Oxford Brookes University, England, won the Global Bronze medal in the Education & Training category.
