UUM ONLINE:The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, went on a walkabout around UUM, last Thursday, to inspect several locations where development projects were in progress.

Among the locations he visited were the sites of the grilled fish (ikan bakar) restaurant project and the edutourism mini zoo project.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that, when the grilled fish restaurant development project was completed, it would be another addition to the newest attractions at UUM and that it would indirectly help generate income for the university and go on to become a hub of tourism in the state of Kedah.

He added that the restaurant would offer various facilities; including meeting rooms, and cater for activities related to academic programmes and co-curricular classes, as well as those serving leisure and recreational purposes.

"The edutourism mini zoo project will house a variety of new fauna which will, most certainly, make it a compelling source of attractions for visitors," he said.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the existence of a variety of faunal species in the mini zoo, such as ducks, geese, peacocks, and guinea fowls, to name but a few, would help spark the genesis of a unique ecosystem capable of supporting new habitats in the Sintok valley.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the campus beautification project was also part of UUM’s preparation to play host to the Commissioning Ceremony of the Student Civil Defence (SISPA) Corps of Institutions of Higher Learning, on 6 August, and the Commissioning Ceremony of the Student Volunteer Police (SUKSIS) Corps of Institutions of Higher Learning, on 20 August 2017.

Apart from this, he said, the beautification efforts were also undertaken to welcome the arrival of the new students, who will begin registering for their respective programmes on 5 September 2017.

The briefing on the development projects was presented by the Director of the Development and Maintenance Department (JPP), Ir Md Uzairin Saidin.  The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on his walking tour by the Director of the Chancellery, Mr. Ahmad Rasidi Abdullah, and senior officers of the JPP.
