1,400 PARTICIPANTS ADDED LUSTRE TO TECHERUN 2017 - MYR117,000 SUCCESSFULLY ACCUMULATED

UUM ONLINE: 19 November - The TISSA-UUM Edu-Charity Nite Run 2017 (TECHERun 2017) received an overwhelming response when it attracted 1,400 participants to take part last night at the UUM Sports Centre. The two categories contested in the TECHERun 2017 were the 10 km Competitive Run which attracted 300 people and the Fun Run (5 km) which was open to students and the outside communities.

Tan Sri Dato' Paduka Dr. Fng Ah Seng, who was the sponsor of the Platinum TECHERun 2017, said the charity run organised by the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School (TISSA-UUM) was held in conjunction with UUM's 30th Convocation Ceremony to raise funds and assist in students' activities and welfare as well as to encourage the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

“Well done, TISSA-UUM for successfully organizing the TECHERun 2017 and I have always been supportive noble causes such as this.

"This kind of activity not only contributes to health but also provides an opportunity for us all to interact and build a relationship of close cooperation between universities, organizations and communities," he said, who is also Managing Director of Epic Valley Holdings Sdn. Bhd. and Chairman of the Tan Sri FNG Ah Seng Muhibah Foundation.

He described the Run as a good initiative as well as an example for students to do charitable work besides being committed to helping UUM.

"With the encouraging response from campus denizens and the outside communities, I hope the programme will continue and become an annual event," he said before launching the charity run.

Earlier, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Corporate Social Responsibility) in recognition of his contributions and contributions at the 30th UUM Convocation Ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said the programme was very interesting as recreational activities contributed to healthy lifestyle.

"Do not forget the message that is implied in this programme that is to maintain a healthy lifestyle especially among the younger generation, avoid drug abuse and harmful things.

"Exercise is food and recreation for the brain, the cheapest workout, no need to spend in order to keep fit, and the brain works optimally if we always exercise," he said.

"The event received unexpected response when 1,400 people participated and surprisingly managed to raise fund totalling MYR117,000 that would be used to help UUM in various activities, enhance excellence and assist the needy students," he said.

The TECHERun 2017 event saw Mr. Muhaizar Mohamad (Senior Male), Mr. Vadiveelu (Men's Veterans), Mdm. Teoh Kim Chyi (Senior Women) and Mdm. Susan Khoo (Women's Veterans) emerged as winners of the respective categories.

Mr. Muhaizar Mohamad, who won the bronze medal for Marathon event at the 2017 SEA Games, took 34-minute and 55-second to finish the entire run and took home MYR 3,000 cash, a medal and certificate.

The victor, Susan Khoo, 57 years old in the female veteran category clocked 48 minutes 24 seconds, proved that age was not an obstacle to continue to be active in sportive activities.

The Competitive Run category offered cash, medal and award certificates to 5 winners for each category. Medals were also given to all participants who successfully completed the run.
