Concerned about the plight of the needy, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) through the PTPTN Prihatin Squad came forward to donate to the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Welfare Home for Orphans, recently. Chairman of PTPTN, Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, stated that as part of the PTPTN Prihatin programme, seven orphans aged 11 to 16 years old at the UUM Welfare Home for Orphans received contributions in the form of SSPN Prime Savings Accounts worth MYR100 each.

In addition, he stated that PTPTN presented a zakat contribution of MYR10,000 to assist with the operating costs of the UUM Welfare Home for Orphans.

“PTPTN decided to assist after the COVID-19 pandemic caused many people to have a difficult life, so the PTPTN Prihatin Squad decided to help out the needy.

"Aside from that, we want to reach out to the community and introduce PTPTN, which not only provides education loans but also holds community programmes to ensure the PTPTN brand remains close to the community's hearts," he said.

Mr. Salleh Hudin Mustaffa, Chief Librarian, accepted the zakat contribution on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), who is performing the duties of Vice Chancellor.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wan Mohd Saifudin Wan Zainal Abidin, a fellow recipient, thanked PTPTN for their assistance in opening the SSPN account, which indirectly encouraged him to study hard so that he could enrol in university later.

The Form 4 student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Sintok also expressed gratitude to UUM for accepting him into the home.

"Aside from relieving my mother's burden, who has not worked since my father's death and has only relied on my brother and sister, I can focus on my studies, let alone next year when I will sit for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination," he said, who has lived in the welfare home for three years.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Azfar Syamim Mohd Roslan, a Year 5 student at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Sintok, thanked PTPTN for their generosity.

Furthermore, the fourth child of seven siblings expressed gratitude to UUM for accepting him to live at the UUM Welfare Home for Orphans.

Muhammad Azfar's father was killed in a car accident in 2018, and his mother is now working in a factory to support the family.

Also present at the event were, the Director of the Islamic Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr Ismail Ishak and officials from the UUM Islamic Centre.
