KEDAH BILATERAL DIALOGUE WITH NATIONAL COUNCIL OF PROFESSORS: NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENT CLUSTER

UUM ONLINE: 06 April 2015- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and National Council of Professors: Natural Resources and Environment (SAAS) Cluster can become the official platform for sharing ideas and insights related to the environment and natural resources especially in state of Kedah.

In his opening remark, the Secretary of SAAS Cluster, Prof Dr Noor Azhar Mohamed Shazili said that this open-floor dialogue session presented the opportunities for all parties to exchange ideas, observations and views on environmental and natural resources issues. This dialogue is also expected to have the most far-reaching impact on the people in Kedah state with its share of rich and natural resources and the country as a whole. 

"Planning of development projects should take into account environmental concerns to ensure that the environment and the natural resources are properly managed,” he said.

The Kedah bilateral dialogue with National Council of Professors: National Resources and Environment Cluster was presided over by UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Wira Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak at the Senate Room, Chancellery Building recently.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor extended his deepest congratulations and sincere thanks to the Professors in SAAS Cluster for choosing UUM as the location for the constructive dialogue session. He added that the SAAS Cluster is currently doing a roadshow to address the global issue on the importance of preserving the environment and natural resources.

The Vice-Chancellor said that UUM is totally committed to the preservation and protection of the delicate habitats of the flora and fauna in Sintok forest, as well as making UUM an ecologically friendly university campus.

Presentations were made by four Professors from SAAS Cluster together with UUM academics, representatives from Kedah state government during the dialogue session. A question and answer session was also held during the dialogue. The dialogue ended with the moderator winding-up the session.

Also present at the dialogue session were the representatives from SAAS Cluster, Prof Dr Zulkifli Yusop, Prof Dr Rosli Hashim, Prof Dr Mohd Shahwahid Othman, Prof Dr Tajuddin Abdullah, MrZolarman Muhamad, members of UUM Management Committee, senior university officers and representatives from the state government.

Earlier on, the delegation of Professors attended a dinner reception on 21 June 2014 at the Grand Alora Hotel, AlorSetar. The delegation was also taken to the newly launched UUM Welcome Centre before the dialogue session.
