UUM BAGS FLORIA GARDEN CREATIVE AWARD AT FLORIA PUTRAJAYA 2014

14 June 2014- The much awaited flower and garden festival, Floria Putrajaya 2014, with its apt theme 'Begonia-Mesmerizing Colours’, showcased an exhibition of Begonias of various species that are native to the subtropical and tropical climates in exclusively designed gardens.

The Green Initiative’s Garden concept by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) attracted considerable attention from the jury and was awarded the Floria Garden Creative Award (University category) during Floria Putrajaya 2014.

UUM team was represented by final year students; Aini Zulaikha Abdul Jamai, Hanie Shafiqah Abdul Halim, Mohamad Firdaus Mohd Parid, Mohd ShafiqHaffny Mohd Sofi, Wan Muhammad Hafizuddin Wan Abd Aziz and Mohammad Faizal Haji Azid @ Aziz.

This is the 7th time Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) hosted Floria Putrajaya 2014 from 14 to 22 June 2014 with the aim to increase the public awareness on the environment and climate change.

UUM Architect, Nur Syuhadathul Amin Abdul Aziz, the team studio expert said that the organisation of Floria Putrajaya 2014 provided the perfect opportunity for students to apply their creative talents and showcase their inventions. Students also get to share their ideas with other stakeholders in the landscape, horticulture and gardening industry. They also acquire new techniques for flower decoration, landscaping and horticulture from leading international landscape designers and architects.

About 20 institutions of higher education took part in Floria Putrajaya 2014 namely Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM). All participating institutions created spectacular display of floral arrangements in attractively designed landscaped gardens.
