UUM MADE A DEBUT IN THE UI GREENMETRIC RANKING 2015

UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) made a debut in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2015 when it is ranked 45th place yesterday.

The UI GreenMetric Ranking is the first and the only ranking which measures each participating university’s commitment in developing an ‘environmentally friendly’ infrastructure around the world.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak expressed his deepest appreciation and gratitude to the staff members of UUM for their efforts in carrying out their commitments in order to gain this world recognition.

According to him, with this achievement, UUM is now ranked 9th in Asia, 7th in Southeast Asia and 2nd in Malaysia.

UUM VOLUNTEERS PLANT 200 MANGROVES IN MERBOK

SSD ONLINE, 2 Dec. 2015: A total of 39 students from the course of Volunteering (SSWP1033), Group A, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) led by Syamir Marwan b. Abdul Murad and Nor Azizah Md Yusup successfully planted 200 mangrove trees in Kampung Sungai Pasir, Merbok, Sungai Petani, Kedah on 21 November. The two types of mangrove trees planted were Rhizophora Apiculata (bakau minyak) and Rhizophora Mucronata (bakau kurap). The volunteer programme with the theme Save Our Shores, Man in the Mangroves was organized with the collaboration of the Kedah State Forestry Department and the Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC), Kedah.

Utusan Malaysia, 9 Nov. 2015; SINTOK - Hutan Sintok di Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) berkeluasan 1,061 hektar dan berusia ribuan tahun bakal menjadi tarikan utama sempena Tahun Melawat UUM 2016 atau Discover UUM.

Naib Canselor UUM, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak berkata, ia menawarkan pengalaman pelancongan berasaskan ekopelancongan untuk pelancong dalam dan luar negara khsusunya pencinta alam.

Menurutnya, lebih 3,000 pokok gaharu, beberapa spesis pokok karas serta pokok ratusan tahun yang dikenali sebagai 'pohon tiga beradik' dengan saiz 10 pemeluk terdapat di hutan tersebut.

UUM ONLINE, 8 Nov. 2015: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) management took the initiative to organise Discover UUM 2016, to showcase the priceless treasures found in Sintok valley which could potentially attract huge number of tourists.

UUM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, the Discover UUM 2016 would draw parallels and in line with supporting the Kedah Tourism’s persistent efforts to promote the state.

"The Discover UUM 2016 programme will encapsulate what UUM is all about. Over the next few months, integrated initiatives and activities will be rolling out to bring about the UUM dimension of entrepreneurship and management.

UUM ONLINE, Oct. 11, 2015: In conjunction with the National Sports Day, which is celebrated simultaneously throughout the country, the Kedah Menteri Besar, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir arrived at the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) parade ground to officiate the inaugural National Sports Day, at the state-level.

Also present at the ceremony were the State Youth and Sports, Arts and Culture and Human Development Committee chairman, Aminuddin Omar; and UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Malek Abdul Karim.

VICE-CHANCELLOR VISITS SINTOK FOREST AND UUM GOLF COURSE

UUM ONLINE: October 3, 2015 – Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak visited the Sintok Forest and UUM Golf Course this morning.

The visit is aimed at identifying the priceless treasures found in the Forest Sintok which could potentially attract huge number of scholastic tourists in conjunction with the Visit UUM Edutourism 2016.

Among the priceless treasures which can be found in the Sintok forest are trees which are hundreds of years old dubbed as the three sisters.

SOUTHEAST ASIA REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON SRI 2015 INITIATES ORGANIC FARMING

UUM ONLINE: Alor Setar – In a bid to help improve the quality of life for both farmers and consumers, through the creation of System in Rice Intensification (SRI), the Agro-ecology Association of Malaysia in collaboration with the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), Universiti Utara Malaysia organised the Southeast Asia Regional SRI Conference 2015 at the TH Hotel and Convention Centre from 25 to 28 May.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Kedah State Executive Councillor, Yang Berhormat Dato' Suraya Yaacob cum State Women Development, Welfare Services, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Committee Chairman at the TH Hotel recently.

INTERNATIONAL PARAMOTOR PILOTS GLIDE DOWN TO UUM

UUM ONLINE: 28 April 2015-11 professional paramotor pilots from Malaysia, Belgium and Holland landed with a smooth touchdown at the stadium in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) Sports Centre to complete the mission of the 56th Merdeka Paramotor Circuit recently.

The activity manager of the Malaysia Paramotor Pilots, Radio Tan, said that the one-hour flight from Timah Tasoh, Perlis, to UUM was one of their flight missions to explore Malaysia after undertaking a series of flight activities at various places of interest previously.
