Kejayaan itu bukan sahaja memartabatkan nama Polimas di pertandingan tersebut, malah menaikkan nama Politeknik Malaysia dalam bidang inovasi di negara ini.

33 HEP STAFF JOINED HEP GO GREEN PROGRAMME

HEP Online: A total of 33 staff of Department of Student Affairs (HEP) including staff from Taman Siswaparticipated in the HEP Go Green programme which was held in Sintok on 19 June 2014.

Through the program, each staff was able to foster environmental hygiene so that the area is clean and can give peace to the users of the forest. The staff were divided into three groups and given a plastic bag each to collect the rubbish found in the forest.

UUM BAGS FLORIA GARDEN CREATIVE AWARD AT FLORIA PUTRAJAYA 2014

14 June 2014- The much awaited flower and garden festival, Floria Putrajaya 2014, with its apt theme 'Begonia-Mesmerizing Colours’, showcased an exhibition of Begonias of various species that are native to the subtropical and tropical climates in exclusively designed gardens.

The Green Initiative’s Garden concept by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) attracted considerable attention from the jury and was awarded the Floria Garden Creative Award (University category) during Floria Putrajaya 2014.

HELP THE VILLAGERS IN FARMING, CREATE ECO-FRIENDLY FERTILIZERS

UUM ONLINE 21 March 2014: Recently School of Technology Management & Logistics (STML) and Agro Belantik Corporation Sik Berhad in collaboration with Uniutama Education and Consultancy SdnBhd (UEC) organised a workshop on Sustainable Agriculture Management I and II at Sri Lovely Farm, Sik, Kedah.

According to the Dean of STML, Assoc. Prof Dr Zulkifli Mohamed Udin, this workshop was held to help the women farmers and small entrepreneurs in the State of Perlis to learn the method of manufacturing fertilizer, rice cultivation and vegetables organically.He further added that participants also had the opportunity to experience and try the innovative method of rice cultivation technique, System of Rice Intensification (SRI).

PARTICIPANTS OF IAHA 2014 VISIT HISTORICAL TREASURES IN KEDAH

UUM ONLINE: 22 February 2014-The state of Kedah or also known as the “Rice Bowl of Malaysia”, for the first time, since its inception in 1960, was given the honour to host the 23rd International Conference of Historians of Asia 2014 (IAHA 2014). It was collaboratively organised by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and Malaysian Historical Society (PSM).

The second day of the conference saw participants visited the wold renowned historical and archaeological sites around Kedah. Their first stop was Kedah Paddy Museum, located at the foot of Gunung Keriang. A mural which displayed the various stages of rice cultivation from ploughing, planting, threshing and winnowing attracted the attention of the participants.

UUM SEALS MOU WITH KEDA AND AGRO BELANTIK CORPORATION SIK BERHAD

10 January 2014- Prof Dato' Wira Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UUM and Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) and also Agro Belantik Corporation Sik Berhad. The MoU signing ceremony was held at EDC-UUM.

KEDA General Manager, Dato' Haji Mohd Arpan Shari represented Kedah Regional Development Authority whilst Agro Belantik Corporation SikBerhad was represented by the Chairman, Captain (Rtd) Zakaria Kamantasha.

SIPTIK IV: GREEN TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION AND COMMERCIALIZATION TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

UUM ONLINE, 15 May 2013: School of Technology Management & Logistics (STML) in collaboration with the Center for University-Industry Cooperation (CUIC) held a symposium on Technology Management, Operations and Logistics 2013 (SIPTIK IV) with the theme 'Green Technology, Innovation and Commercialization Towards Sustainability'.

According to the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr Zulkifli Mohamed Udin this programme was held to produce students who are able to become researchers who can cultivate ideas and improve innovative and creative thinking to produce a quality study or project.

A VISIT TO PPSPPA, E-IDAMAN & WASTE DISPOSAL CENTER

9 April 2013-A total of 30 students from Environmental Engineering and Management programme as well as SIG Construction have organized visit to the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (PPSPPA) to enhance knowledge in the subject taught. This was held for the purpose of providing disclosure to students about the management and the actions carried out by the PPSPPA and E-Idaman.

The visit provided exposure and knowledge to students regarding solid waste management. Students also learnt the methods used by the E-Idaman in disposing solid waste. In addition, students were also given exposure on handling machinery in solid waste disposal. The programme provided beneficial experience for the students.

UUM STML RESEARCHERS HELP ENHANCE RICE YIELD

13 March 2013- Researchers from School of Technology Management and Logistics UUM College of Business managed to promote alterative rice cultivation method that can improve the use of idle land and rice yield in conjunction with the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) and Agro Belantik Corporation Sdn. Bhd. particularly for people in Sik.

The research and project done in KampungLintang, Sik also known as Projek Sri Lovely (Lintang Organic Valley) was led by Dr. Kamal Ab Hamid along with Dr. Siti Norezam Othman, Dr. Noorulsadiqin Azbiya Yaacob, Zakirah Othman, Dr. Norani Nordin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahiml Mohtar as Special Interest Group (SIG) advisor.

THREE OTHER PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES PARTICIPATED IN SIPTIK V

20 November 2012- Symposium on Technology Management, Operations and Logistics the 5th (SIPTIK V) with the theme "Green Management Drivers for Sustainability and Transient Advantages" for the first time received participation from three other public higher education institutions.

According to the Director of SIPTIK V, Dr. Wan Nadzri Osman, about 364 students participated in SIPTIK V of which 304 were from UUM while 60 fromUniversitiSains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) andSultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Polytechnic (POLIMAS).
